FIS partners with Anthropic for agentic AI

The partnership between FIS and Anthropic to deploy agentic AI for financial crimes represents a strategic shift for core banking providers to monetize first-party data and defend their market share.

The argument

The guest argued that FIS can leverage this to drive top-line revenue growth by charging banks for advanced AI capabilities, while also defending against direct disruption from AI labs. However, success will depend on data ownership terms and banks' ability to integrate these agents with complex legacy core systems.

The thesis, stress-tested
✓ What validates it
  • Successful deployment of the financial crimes agent at BMO and Amalgamated Bank in H2 2026
  • FIS reporting incremental revenue growth from AI agent upsells
▸ Risks discussed
  • Data ownership and privacy terms in the contract could limit scalability
  • Integration challenges with complex legacy core banking systems
  • Potential pushback from banks wanting to own rather than lease AI IP
Hear it yourself
"on your app? No. I think it could be helpful if, as I said, if the communication's done well. I mean, if it's a but I guess if it's a case that if I go to my bank's website and a a message pops up suggesting that I consider investing a portion of that money, I'm not sure how much I guess I would think I was quite a typical user. I'm not sure how much I'm gonna heed that advice because I I think it will benefit me, but I'd also be thinking that it's gonna benefit the the bank too. So I probably want a third party, kind of verification."
