AI model market is not zero-sum

The guest argued that the AI model market will not be a winner-take-all scenario because the demand for machine intelligence is virtually infinite and leading providers are severely capacity-constrained.

The argument

The speakers explained that even second- or third-tier models will easily sell out their capacity because top-tier providers cannot fulfill the entire market's demand, allowing multiple players to co-exist profitably.

The thesis, stress-tested
✓ What validates it
  • Secondary model providers reporting full capacity utilization
  • Sustained licensing revenue for non-leading LLMs
▸ Risks discussed
  • Rapid convergence of model capabilities making capacity the only differentiator
  • A sudden drop in overall demand for LLM intelligence
Hear it yourself
"And I guess the question as we think about these models getting smarter, does it matter that there, does the whole unemployment thing or the impact of jobs? Because I think that's what I hear in this conversation is, like, what does it mean for me? A lot of knowledge workers listening to this. Mhmm. How do you think people should, view what some of what we've seen, some of what we're picking up on, looking at how smart the models are? I think AI for any individual, it can either supercharge you or it can make you irrelevant. It's it's about that binary, in my opinion. And so anybody"
