Driver assist systems cannot naturally evolve into autonomy

The argument
A simple end-to-end model trained on passive human driving data is sufficient for driver assist because the required 'number of nines' for safety is drastically lower. However, full autonomy requires a complex ecosystem of off-board foundation models, simulators, and critic models to handle the long tail of edge cases.
