Domestic chipmakers win on security-driven supply chains

The guest argued that domestic semiconductor manufacturers are the primary and most straightforward beneficiaries of government 'production for security' initiatives.

The argument

While biotech and pharma are also critical, the guest noted that the semiconductor supply chain is easier for policymakers to target and support. This makes domestic chip fabrication a cleaner policy-driven trade.

The thesis, stress-tested
✓ What validates it
  • Continued government subsidies and policy mandates favoring domestic chip production
  • Stabilization of semiconductor inventory levels and margin expansion for domestic fabs
▸ Risks discussed
  • Semiconductor industry cyclicality and historical tendency to oversupply
  • Execution risks in building out domestic fabrication facilities

"They're seeing some real positive things going down on the energy side. I think the real surprise is gonna be a rare earth and critical mineral surge there. We're not only can we get the rare earth and critical minerals there, but it's gonna be far easier to process and refine them there than it is on The US. As much as we're trying to do it in The US, regulation remains an issue. The only thing I would say when we kinda look at this oil, I I think that might be part of the strategy. I'm also worried that it's a twenty year old strategy that's being dusted off, where if you look at where China has moved, right, solar, batteries, nuclear are providing more and more of their power."
